There’s a part of me that is ready to fall away. I keep searching for the whole, and still I peer down the deep dark hollow hole. What I wish to do is chip the dead away like excess bark, but live trees don’t shed…they grow into their selves and their surroundings. I am not a tree however, so what to do with me?
Using pinhole polaroids to make self–portraits is an ongoing project begun in 2007 and continued sporadically since. I find the pinhole process particularly sympathetic to making self-portraits as I am able to set up the composition, open the shutter and take my place within the frame. Produced without self-timer or cable release, the photograph records my spontaneous performance within the composition allowing for both the carefully planned and the accidental.
