(Printed 2019–20) 9”x11” toned cyanotype prints on masa paper
The sensation of being stuck inside of oneself, as if in a locked chamber, is a feeling that I have come to know well. While there are joyful discoveries made through introspection and contemplation, this mental attention to detail can also lead to over-analysis and anxiety. As an introvert, all this occurs quietly, from the “indoors” looking out. In this work, I have made a visual poem, a cento brought together from a five-year period particularly fraught with depression and uncertainty. All printed using the cyanotype process; the images are combined in varying shades of blue, a color that represents calm as well as melancholy. Now on the other side of this dark period, I analyze and memorialize these years of my young adulthood in order to remember as I pass the threshold and out the door.
